Design Technology (DT)
We aim for our children to design projects with purpose, often linked to other topics of study to make learning as relevant and immersive as possible. We aim for design and technology activities in our school to give our children opportunities to use a range of materials and processes and to work independently or as part of a team. We believe that the activities undertaken here at Forty Hill will also reflect the children's local environment and support them in the wider world; this is particularly evident in our Forest School programme and Forty Hill College (Year 5 and 6) which runs throughout the year.
We are extremely lucky to have a purpose built children’s kitchen on site here at Forty Hill and we aim to use this throughout the year to compliment different areas of learning as well as explicitly covering the healthy and nutritious cooking aims of the DT curriculum.
This approach aligns with our school vision of Learning and Living in Faith, Hope, and Service. By encouraging purposeful design and teamwork, we instil a sense of service to others and the community. The practical, real-world focus of our DT projects nurtures hope, as students see the impact of their work on their immediate environment and beyond, while faith in their abilities grows as they tackle challenges and develop important life skills through collaborative learning.
